The Problem
Walking trails and stairways in natural settings present a specific challenge. The handrail needs to meet safety and accessibility standards, hold up in an outdoor environment long term, and not look out of place in the landscape. Most off-the-shelf systems tick one or two of those boxes. Getting all three usually means expensive custom fabrication.
The Wollombi Stairway project needed a solution that was fully compliant, structurally sound, and visually suited to a public walking trail setting.
The Solution
Uni-Fit’s modular handrail system was installed at Wollombi Stairway, delivering a compliant and durable result without the bulk of traditional cast fittings. The system slots together mechanically, requiring no welding and no specialist trades on site.
The clean, low-profile design suits the trail environment. There are no protrusions, no bulky joints, and no industrial finish that clashes with the surroundings. Long term, the system is low maintenance, which matters for a public infrastructure installation that can’t be easily accessed for ongoing upkeep.
